I have interrogated cities and event-led cultural policy-making since 1999. I started by revisiting the cultural legacy of the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games to inform my work on the Sydney 2000 Olympic Arts Festivals. This was followed by research on the legacy of Glasgow 1990 as European Capital of Culture; the experience of Cultureshock – cultural programme for the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games; the five-year Impacts 08 programme on the multiple impacts of Liverpool as European Capital of Culture 2008; and the assessment of how London 2012 could deliver a four-year Cultural Olympiad throughout the UK.
Find below some images, inter-connections, reflections and, most of all, evidence of the importance of looking at things long-term, both from a historical and forward looking perspective. (I’ll get a soundtrack to help interpreting this, eventually!)
